We are pleased to announce that Betty Harris, a longstanding member of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, has been awarded the Women of Distinction award for the First Legislative District. Mrs. Harris was nominated by District 1 Legislator Al Krupski in recognition of her unwavering dedication to serving the community.

Mrs. Harris has been a devoted member of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps for over 42 years, having joined in September of 1981. Despite juggling multiple jobs, volunteering in her church, and caring for her family, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to providing emergency ambulance services to the people of Riverhead.

Mrs. Harris's contributions have not gone unnoticed by her peers. In fact, she is the only member of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to have earned the prestigious Corpsman of the Year award twice, in 1988 and again in 2009. This honor is bestowed by the Corps' Chief each year on the member who best exemplifies the spirit of dedicated service to Riverhead's residents and the Ambulance Corps.

Mrs. Harris's achievements do not end there. In 2014, she was honored with a lifetime achievement award, becoming only the second RVAC member to receive this esteemed recognition.

We are proud to have Mrs. Harris as a valued member of our organization and congratulate her on this well-deserved accolade!
