On the afternoon of July 1, 2017 Riverhead Ambulance was activated for a report of two people in the water after their kayak capsized in the Long Island Sound.

Lifeguards swam out around 3pm to rescue the kayakers and were assisted by the Riverhead Fire Department.

The kayakers were not injured and were released at the scene after they were evaluated by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
