By Director Joseph Oliver
December 1, 2023

Riverhead, NY – At approximately 3:12 PM today, Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance was dispatched to a significant motor vehicle accident located at the intersection of Court Street and Griffing Avenue. Upon arrival, two Riverhead ambulances and a Northwell Paramedic unit were on scene to manage the situation.

It was quickly ascertained that there were six patients involved in the incident. The Northwell paramedic efficiently triaged the patients, identifying one as 'yellow' and five as 'green' under emergency medical categorization. This prompt assessment was crucial in addressing the urgency of care needed for each individual.

We are immensely grateful for the rapid response and assistance from our surrounding departments. Their collaborative effort was instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved. The combined expertise and dedication of these teams played a vital role in the efficient handling of this emergency.

Ultimately, five patients were transferred to Peconic Bay Medical Center for further evaluation and care and one patient refused medical transportation. We extend our deepest appreciation to the following departments for their invaluable support:

- Riverhead Fire Department
- Northwell EMS
- Flanders Northampton Ambulance
- Manorville Ambulance
- East Moriches Ambulance
- Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance
- Suffolk County Fire Rescue

This incident highlights the importance of community and inter-agency cooperation in times of crisis. We are proud to work alongside these outstanding organizations and thank them for their continued partnership in serving our community.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance remains committed to providing prompt and professional medical services to the Riverhead area. We thank the public for their understanding during this incident and assure continuous dedication to public safety and wellbeing.
