Throughout NYS state, all EMT-B's, EMT-CC's, and EMT-P's had to complete an update to our current protocols. This was a 3 hour training, half of it online with a video and a test, and the other half is a skills session, where new skills have to be performed in front of NYS certified instructors. With this protocol you will see less people on backboards, as research has shown backboards can actually worsen a patient's condition. Also new hemorrhage control practices were taught to the members. This is just one of the many trainings that the members of RVAC go through each year. This year, over 30 in house trainings have taken place at RVAC, in addition to the classes all EMTs go through get initially certified or re-certify every 3 years.
